Challenge
Following the catastrophic February 2023 earthquakes in southeast Türkiye and northwest Syria, CDAC Network was commissioned to map the communication and engagement ecosystems in affected areas – critical and urgent, groundwork for any humanitarian response to reach people effectively. The research, delivered in partnership with CLEAR Global and Insecurity Insight and funded by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) through the H2H Network, needed to translate complex findings on language, media, culture and information access – including a spotlight on the experiences of people with disabilities – into something response actors and donors could action, across two very different national contexts and in three languages.
Approach
Rather than treating publication as the end point, I planned the communications package as a single pipeline from research to reach: producing the reports themselves alongside the advocacy messages and dissemination plan needed to get the findings in front of the right audiences, in the languages those audiences actually needed.
What I did
- Edited, designed and typeset reports (covering Türkiye and northwest Syria separately) in English, Arabic and Turkish.
- Developed key advocacy messages alongside the reports, distilling complex ecosystem findings into messages usable by response actors and donors.
- Built a dissemination and communications plan, shared with partners across all three languages, to guide how the findings reached target audiences.
- Produced a package of social media assets to support wider reach and visibility of the findings.
