SAFE AI: End-to-end launch of the humanitarian sector’s first operational AI governance framework

Challenge
SAFE AI needed to launch as a credible, adoptable governance standard for AI use in humanitarian context. That meant producing a rigorous framework and toolkit, as well as supporting materials, to a high publishing standard, keeping a full project team aligned on messaging through a high-stakes launch window, and securing visibility for CDAC Network (a comparatively small organisation) in a crowded, high-profile AI governance conversation, timed to land at the UK Foreign Secretary’s Global Partnerships Conference.

Approach
I ran this as a full-pipeline project: sourcing and directing external talent where specialist skill was needed, producing content directly where I had capacity, and building the internal tools that kept a wider cross-consortium team consistent and confident once the launch was live. The publications, the launch event and the social campaign were treated as one coordinated comms push rather than three separate workstreams.

What I did

  • Sourced and managed an external editor and designer to bring the final framework and toolkit to a professional publishing standard, while personally producing some of the supporting papers.
  • Directed a distinct visual identity for SAFE AI: related to CDAC’s core brand but deliberately more sober and authoritative in look and voice, moving away from CDAC’s friendlier, NGO-facing style to suit a governance-standard and tech audience.
  • Developed the full communications strategy and launch plan, alongside FAQs and a messaging script to keep every team member from across the consortium on-message through launch.
  • Developed the SAFE AI landing page.
  • Ran organic LinkedIn dissemination that reached key influencers in the AI governance space: visibility that punched well above CDAC’s size and profile.
  • Supported the launch itself at the Global Partnerships Conference, and produced video content of the launch speech.
  • Supported leadership to author several policy articles and speeches.
